George & Boo!
They are the newest addition to the family. They are Siamese Fighting Fish (Betta Splendens) and are both male and fairly low maintenance. I have them both in a small rectangular vases I bought a while ago from Ikea and they seem to be quite happy. Because they are male and have ego issues, they have to be separated or they will fight to the death! So, being the nerd that I am, I have the vases side by side so they can see each other and not be completely bored. Isn’t that what us girls do? Torture boys? However, they are also known to jump from time to time, so I have to keep the vases separated a few inches from each other to avoid the temptation.
The boys each have a pet that Mommy is taking care of (naturally) and so far haven’t died on me (it’s been two whole days!). I seem to have a problem keeping plants & fish alive, but we will see how well these guys do. Seeing that they aren’t ‘mine’ they might have a fighting chance!
Here is George. He belongs to Lucas (who also named him). I love the colors on George. They are mainly an aqua and red, but depending on the angle there are blue and purple in there too.

Here is Boo. He belongs to Nathan (who also named him). Boo’s colors are also beautiful. This picture doesn’t do him justice. He has bits of red in his fins, which appear burgundy in certain light. His body also changes depending on the way the light hits him. Sometimes he almost looks opal, with bits of blue, purple and green. Both fish are stunning and I can watch them swim all day. There is something peaceful about owning fish.

Here are a couple other pictures of the fish.

Boo, staring me down. I won!

Cuuuuuuute!! But what happened to Boo’s birth name (Frank)??! LOL
These are way awesome. Love the colors. But what I need to know is this…if they are jumpers – then what are they landing on? Your pink and purple post it notes?

George started out being Frank, then Lucas changed his mind this morning. I guess he thought that the fish looked more like a George than a Frank.
That and EVERYTHING is George to him lately.
LOL
Well, they would land on the table and I would have to pick them up and put them back in the vase. ROFL. They don’t always jump, but are known to. They also like to come to the surface for air. Very cool fish!

They are really lovely fish. We had two a few months back also in our fish tank but they both died. We now just have a few silver dollars and 2 angel fish and a loach. We have 2 newts that we have had for years but they are in a separate tank. I love fish. But I think next time I will try loads of little fishes in the big tank as I like the little ones too. I love the purple stones too. They really set it all off.
